Masquerade

After This Masquerade by George Benson

Are we really happy here

With this lonely game we play,

Looking to have our say?

Searching but not finding,

Not understanding the way,

We’re lost in a mad masquerade.

Too afraid to pray, we’d rather make a trade,

Though You’ve returned to save us from the start.

We tried to talk it over but the words got in the way,

Then Your Silence said what we could not say.

Thoughts of leaving disappear

Every time I see Your face.

No matter how hard I try

To understand the reasons,

It’s not the game to play.

We’re lost in a mad masquerade.

Too afraid to be a slave, we’d rather fake the grade,

Though You’ve returned to save us from the start.

Your message we talk over and the words get in the way,

But Your Silence says what we cannot say.

Thoughts of leaving disappear

Every time I see Your eyes.

No matter how hard I try

To understand the reasons,

It’s not the game to play.

We’re lost without You to show the way.

We’re lost without Your showing the way.

We’re lost without Your way.
